First, take your favorite herb and grind it up. The quality of the marijuana will determine the quality of the final product. Find your BHO extractor and place the filter or mesh. Fill the BHO extractor with your best herb. Close the extractor tightly and prepare the container and butane gas cans.
Place the container on a flat surface and point the outlet port of the BHO extractor toward it. Put on gloves, insert the tip of the butane can into the extractor and press down. You will hear the sound of the gas passing into the BHO extractor. It will begin to fill and eventually the liquid butane will begin to drip and fall into the Pyrex container.
With your thick, reinforced gloves, hold the BHO extractor firmly and continue injecting butane by applying a little pressure. If necessary, take a break, but the idea is to maintain a constant flow. As you continue to pour butane, two things happen at the same time. The temperature drops quickly and freezes the BHO extractor. That is why reinforced gloves are so important.
A quality BHO extractor will be able to withstand these harsh conditions and will not break in half.
Butane gas turns into liquid and fills the BHO extractor. After this sudden depressurization, the pressure begins to increase again inside the BHO extractor. Only when the pressure inside the extractor is significantly higher than outside will the liquid butane begin to fall into the container. This is the critical moment when you must be alert. Make sure no one is smoking nearby; It is even recommended that no appliance be turned on or off. At this point, butane is everywhere and in highly explosive concentrations.
The general rule is to discharge a volume of butane that doubles the capacity of the BHO extractor. When you have emptied the cans, carefully place the BHO extractor in a safe place. It will be completely frozen. Let it come to room temperature slowly before attempting to open and clean it.
Now, all of the liquid butane in the Pyrex container will begin to bubble on its own. You will want the butane to evaporate as much as possible so that the oil is butane-free. This process is called “purge.” The evaporation point of butane is 1ºC. This means you can leave the Pyrex container outside at room temperature and, over time, all the butane will evaporate.
As the oil begins to concentrate, the rate of evaporation and final purge will slow considerably. At this time, a vacuum chamber may be helpful. With a vacuum chamber you can remove all the air and force the butane out.
Not everyone has access to a vacuum pump or chamber, so the next viable option is a large container to hold the Pyrex container. Fill the large container with hot or boiling water and place the Pyrex container with the unbled oil inside, being careful not to splash water into the oil. This will heat the oil enough to make it more liquid, allowing the butane to be removed more easily. In turn, butane will accelerate its evaporation rate due to the increase in temperature.
After a while, the bubbling will stop. It is the signal that the process is finished. Usually, letting it continue overnight will be enough. Now you can try your own freshly prepared butane hash oil.
