Today, Monday, April 1, 2024, Germany has liberalized the consumption of recreational cannabis, becoming the third European country to make its legislation more flexible.
Germany takes the lead on the cannabis issue and thus becomes the third country – and the largest in Europe – to legalize recreational cannabis consumption, along with Luxembourg and Malta.
¿What does the law that legalizes cannabis in Germany allow? Here we give you a summary of what is allowed to have responsible consumption.
CONSUMPTION: Smoking cannabis will be prohibited within a 100 meter radius of the entrance points of schools, facilities for children and young people, playgrounds and publicly accessible sports facilities, and in pedestrian areas smoking will not be allowed until after 7:00 p.m. , according to EFE.
QUANTITIES: Those over 18 years of age may possess up to 50 grams of cannabis for private consumption, while in public spaces the maximum limit will be 25 grams.
PRIVATE CULTIVATION: It will be possible to privately grow up to three cannabis plants for personal consumption and non-profit cultivation associations will be allowed to grow cannabis and distribute it to their members for their own consumption.
“SOCIAL CLUBS”: Cultivation associations may have a maximum of 500 members with their usual place of residence or domicile in Germany and may cultivate cannabis collectively but not commercially and exchange it between their members for private consumption. Additionally, you can only belong to one cultivation association.
RESTRICTIONS: Associations may give their members a maximum of 25 grams per day or 50 grams per month. For their part, the limit will be lower for young people between 18 and 21 years old, who will only be able to have 30 grams per month with a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content limit of 10%.
The German Government believes that these measures will help combat a growing black market for this substance. Good time for Germany 🙂 good smoke!
